The new public spaces will provide a calm, elegant backdrop for events and activities throughout the day and will enable greater engagement between visitors and the artistic work that is produced by one of the world’s pre-eminent opera houses. “The ‘Open Up’ project at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, designed by Stanton Williams, has transformed key public areas of the building and produced a new state-of-the-art theatre, creating a welcoming, inclusive and inspiring environment for all. The Outdoor Deck Company were commissioned to install the Grad Decking System supplied by Alfresco Floors and Kebony deck boards. Originally a rest area for staff at the Royal Opera House, the decking area was to be re-purposed as part restaurant, part relaxation area, part meeting space and part open air dance training studio. For the last 25 years this was a hardwood deck, but when Stanton Williams Architects were asked to oversee the redevelopment of this area a new deck was an integral part of the plan. Overlooking the Piazza is a fifth floor decking area of around 600sqm.
